Plenary Session: Infectious Disease

This Plenary will feature two innovative leaders who are addressing infectious disease threats in developing nations. Dr. Quarraisha Karim will discuss new developments in the epidemiology and control of HIV and how these are reshaping the boundaries between treatment and prevention. She will focus especially on girls and women and draw on her groundbreaking work in South Africa for illustration. Dr. Orin Levine will discuss the efforts of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the GAVI Alliance to speed the introduction of life-saving immunizations and related technologies into the world’s poorest nations.
